I have a small construction company. I’m offering a lot of work and I’m confident that my proposals will be very competitive. I’ve thought a lot about why I’m not getting as many jobs as I think I should. I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason might be that I don’t offer financing. Many of the larger companies I compete with do this. How do I start this process?
First, question your assumptions: do your larger competitors actually offer financing, or do they have loan brokers who can quickly recommend them to help their customers get the financing they need? There’s an international credit crunch, I bet your competitors aren’t offering financing, just passing on relationships and making it easy for people.
So I would look at this step first. Call some local banks, ask for building finance, who does it locally, who seems to be very good at it. Build a base of people to recommend to your customers.
